MULTOTEC MARKS 25 YEARS IN ZAMBIA, EXPANDS IN-COUNTRY MANUFACTURING, ASSEMBLY AND SERVICE SUPPORT

Multotec Zambia is marking its 25th anniversary in 2026 with the opening of a new facility which serve as the Central Africa Regional Head Office, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to the country and the region’s mining industry. The facility brings Multotec’s expertise, technology, and service capabilities closer to customers, while positioning the business to support the Central African growing mining sector.

The facility strengthens Multotec Zambia’s ability to deliver locally manufactured and refurbished equipment solutions to customers, improve the availability and lead times of critical spare parts and components, provide in-country technical and process optimisation support, and deliver timely field-service support across the Central Africa region.

According to Peter Mbada, Managing Director for Africa at Multotec International, the Central African region’s growing mining sector and increasing demand for localised support motivated this expansion. “The investment in Multotec’s Central Africa Regional Head Office and manufacturing facility in Chingola was approved in 2022 as a strategic hub to support customers across the Copperbelt, North-Western Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Malawi. The facility was established to provide engineering fabrication, pump refurbishment, ceramic lining, spares support, consignment stock management, and regional office capacity, with future manufacturing expansion opportunities. The location was selected based on logistics infrastructure and regional accessibility to optimise service delivery across Central Africa” he explains.

In addition to improving Multotec’s support and service delivery in Zambia and the region, the expanded facility will create local employment opportunities and contribute to skills development through training and knowledge transfer, adds Mbada.

Supporting Zambia’s need for plant efficiency

As Zambia’s mining industry continues to grow, mining operations are increasingly processing more complex and lower-grade ore bodies. This presents operators with the challenge of improving recoveries and efficiency while reducing downtime, controlling costs and maximising throughput in a competitive operating environment.

Multotec’s classification, separation and concentration technologies help mining companies maximise the value of their mineral resourcesby recovering more valuable minerals from their ore bodies. Combined with process optimisation, advanced equipment design and ongoing technical support, these solutions help customers improve recoveries, increase operational efficiency, and enhance plant performance and productivity.

According to Jack Belmonte, Regional Manager: Central Africa (Zambia & DRC), at Multotec International, the new facility acts as a one stop-shop for Zambian and Central African customers, where consumable orders, new or refurbished equipment, after-sales services and field support are handled from start to finish. “We have expanded our service offering to include pump refurbishments, local fabrication and refurbishment of large and complex chutes, conveyors rails and pipe systems, most of which were previously done in South Africa.” highlights Belmonte.

“This contributes to shorter lead times for our clients and is also more cost-effective, as labour and raw materials are sourced locally,” he explains.

In terms of field support, Multotec Zambia has two full-service teams and two dedicated service vehicles to support customers with both unplanned breakdowns and planned maintenance shutdowns. This local service capability enables a same-day response to customer needs and minimises disruption to mining operations.

Moreover, Multotec Zambia has implemented an inventory strategy that balances stockholding with customer demand while maintaining optimum inventory levels. A bonded warehouse will also be in place to reduce lead times for critical spares for regional clients outside of Zambia. This approach enables the company to respond quickly to customer requirements and ensures that essential consumables and components, such as screen panels and cyclone components, are available when needed, reducing lead times and keeping mining operations running efficiently.

Multotec Zambia exemplifies Multotec’s broader strategy of establishing strong regional capabilities in markets where proximity to customers is critical.

“Having evolved from a local operation into an established regional business, Multotec Zambia remains committed to supporting the industry through innovation, local investment and long-term partnerships,” concludes Mbada.
