Organisations looking to embed sustainable, cost-saving and waste-minimising improvements throughout their operations will find practical solutions at this year’s Electra Mining Africa, the largest industrial exhibition in Southern Africa. Visitors will be able to see technologies designed to reduce energy consumption, material usage, waste, emissions and downtime while improving productivity across the production process.
Among the innovations on display is ABB’s extended automation approach, which integrates electrification, digitalisation and lifecycle services into a unified automation ecosystem. By providing real-time operational visibility, the solution enables companies to identify inefficiencies, reduce downtime and optimise energy use.
Demolition and Drilling Equipment (DDE) will showcase a range of all-electric equipment, including BROKK demolition robots, RockBreaker pedestal boom systems, First Green Industries skid steer loaders and Pentruder concrete cutting equipment. The equipment will be powered on the stand, allowing visitors to experience the technology firsthand.
Bell Equipment will present its new motor grader range, built on a future-ready platform designed to support responsible and efficient operations. The machines are compatible with both B20 biodiesel and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) without modification. An advanced hydromechanical transmission enables operation at lower engine RPMs, reducing fuel consumption and emissions while maintaining grading performance.
Energy efficiency also extends to power transmission. Vulkan will demonstrate coupling technologies that improve mechanical efficiency, including the GBNDA eco-friendly coupling series, designed for durability and longer service life, and the GsND coupling series, engineered to enhance power transmission efficiency. By reducing mechanical losses, these solutions maximise the proportion of electrical energy used for productive work, helping large-scale operations lower overall energy consumption over time.
Derrick will exhibit the SuperStack Front-to-Back (FTB) dry screening technology and the G-Vault urethane interstage screening solution. The SuperStack delivers high-efficiency screening for mining and industrial mineral applications, improving classification efficiency and resource recovery while increasing throughput within a compact footprint. This enables operators to improve productivity while reducing the environmental impact associated with processing larger ore volumes.
Supporting infrastructure also plays an important role in improving sustainability and operational reliability. Roxtec will showcase modular sealing systems for cable and pipe penetrations that provide protection against fire, water, dust and air leakage, while allowing high cable density and future system modifications without compromising seal integrity.
Manufactured locally in South Africa, BEKA Schréder’s solar lighting solutions provide reliable off-grid illumination for demanding mining environments. Operating independently of the electrical grid, the systems eliminate the need for extensive trenching, underground cabling and costly electrical reticulation.
Many international brands will also be represented at Electra Mining Africa, with Pump Solve showcasing sustainable technologies from around the world tailored for harsh African operating environments. CHINT will exhibit solutions ranging from power transformers and smart distribution systems to solar technologies, battery storage and remote monitoring systems that improve operational reliability while supporting renewable energy integration.
Beyond the exhibition floor, the free-to-attend Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) Seminar Theatre, will feature presentations on industry best practice, emerging technologies and practical solutions. The Society for Automation Instrumentation Mechatronics and Computer Engineering (SAIMC) will host technical workshops on the second day of the show, while the SA Institution of Mechanical Engineering (SAIMechE) will host the SAIMechE Skills and Career Hub throughout the event. WiMSA will also host a half-day Women in Mining workshop.
