THE ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT AND KANSHANHI MINE PARTNER FOR CAPACITY BUILDING OF LOCAL SUPPLIERS AND CONTRACTORS

The Zambian Government, through the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development in North Western province, has commended Kansanshi Mining PLC for organising a successful Tender and Bid Workshop for suppliers and Contractors.

Speaking at the closure of the workshop, North Western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr Luckson Mulumbi emphasised the importance of local content development in Zambia’s mining sector.

He highlighted government’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment, while ensuring that Zambians benefit from the country’s mineral resources.

The DPS advised contractors and suppliers to ensure they adhere to the laid-down procedures and regulations, saying, “It’s crucial for contractors and suppliers to understand the importance of following established procedures. This not only ensures the success of their businesses but also contributes to the overall development of the province.”

Mr Mulumbi has urged local businesses to take advantage of the opportunities available in the mining sector and to ensure they meet the required standards.

“We encourage our local contractors and suppliers to strengthen their technical expertise, improve financial management, and uphold safety and environmental standards,” he said.

The workshop aimed to provide suppliers and contractors with insights into Kansanshi Mine’s tendering processes, evaluation criteria, and compliance requirements.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from government agencies, financial institutions, and local businesses.

Among the dignitaries present were His Worship, the Mayor of Solwezi, Mr Remmy Kalepa, Kansanshi Mine representative, and the North Western Province Chamber of Commerce president.
